I have a hard time encapsulating the work of Neo-Expressionist Jean-Michel Basquiat into a couple sentences-- His life was short and yet, you would not think so from the shear amount of art he created.

 His work spoke to his experience of racism in America, cultural (and his own) identity, oppression, colonialism, and his own place in the art world.

 If there’s one artist whose biography you should learn, I would say it should be Basquiat.

“[Basquiat was] a star Black artist making images of the Black experience and class struggle that reached a huge audience.”
